Going Through the Storm to Claim Victory (conclusion) by Brother Curtis Hansen
Let us move to the second point and that's Legion. Much like the man who carried the legion of evil spirits, where he was in the cemetery breaking chains and fetters, we can put ourselves in situations, go to dead areas in our life and set up a house there. Do not disassociate because you are not cutting yourself or hang around in the cemetery. You always need to have set boundaries in your life.
When the boat carrying Jesus had landed on Gadarenes the man with unclean spirits ran to him. It's recorded that he was unable to be bound by chains. Those spirits could break free of the chains. Today we will try and chain up our devil through medication or psychology. Evil spirits know how to break chains and locks, but a lot of Christians will stay latched to a chain and just shrug their shoulders saying "that's life!"
The devil does not look at your net worth, possessions, property or your bottom line when he attacks you. We have the authority granted by the Holy Spirit to bind and loosen things in our life. We often want God to move and remove us from a situation. There is something to be said about having the grace to stay and change the situation. Sometimes you need grace and courage in fighting for the territory that you gained. Legion addressed Jesus as the Son of God and not Messiah. Legion recognized that power at first sight. He knew Jesus' name and the power he had by asking that he is not to be tormented. There are people you come across in your life just like Legion, as they are isolated, wounding themselves intentionally and resting in a dead place. Jesus cast out the devils by calling them as one an unclean spirit. The man tormented had identified with his demons, his weakness, his issues more than his own name. There are times you can overrule your own demons.
The last point of the sermon is about the pigs. The devils and demons were in unison as to where they wanted to be cast out into. Not to leave the country, but to 2000 pigs herding together. The devils were negotiating to go to an animal and killed within seconds afterwards. This speaks to the strength of man's will. Pigs cannot swim and they were the most valuable asset in the country. Adjusted for todays currency, 2000 head of swine would equal to 2 million dollars. We can ignore the possessed and fins offense when the possession is affected. Why the pigs? The demon attack the value of something or someone. The devils goal is to ruin your walk and relationship with God.
